yeah, not so much with the merry...

Is it just me, or was Christmas spirit MIA this year? It's been arriving later and later as I've been getting older, but this year it just didn't show up at all. I'm only disappointed because I'd been looking forward to Christmas; it's my favorite national holiday (after my birthday, of course) and because I was in Europe last year for the holidays, the lack of merriment has an added significance.

There are other factors contributing to my gloom, though. My sister and I decided to put on a movie, and we picked RENT. Say what you will about this movie, but I enjoy it. I hadn't seen RENT since I first saw it in theaters two years back and therefore didn't anticipate how effectively it would amplify the despondency in two already-gloomy kids on Christmas. Needless to say, Angel's death hit us pretty hard. Sad stuff. And lots of gratuitous singing.

After that was over, we were looking for something else to watch and after passing over Mysterious Skin in my collection, I casually mentioned how that was even more depressing than RENT. Tatyana thought that it would be a fitting end to a drab Christmas, and I really couldn't disagree. For those of you who have seen Mysterious Skin, I don't need to explain how it effortlessly hammered gloom into our very hearts. And for those of you that haven't, I won't ruin the movie for you. I will, however, recommend it. I'd only seen it once before and though I conceded it was a really good movie, it was simultaneously so disturbing that I vowed never to watch it again. I'm glad I did though; I think it's one of those movies where you almost have to watch it twice. Anyways, it really is excellent, and you should see it if you haven't already.

So, yeah. That was my Christmas =]. Wasn't that bad, but I certainly hope yours was a bit cheerier. And if not, well, now you have my shiny new blog to look forward to! I named it nodnarb (brandon backwards for my special friends) because it is a reflection of me, obviously, but it's also sort of a side of me that you don't often get to see. I really think there's this huge disconnect between the Brandon you hear and the Brandon you read and so, I've given this alter-ego of sorts a name. Don't really know what direction I want to take the blog in, but you can rest assured that nodnarb is just as random as brandon.

Ciao for now! Happy Holidays!!
