Smash vs. Smack!! - Jon McLaughlin's Version of Smash Into You

Before Beyoncé got her hands on the lovely track Smash Into You, Jon McLaughlin recorded it for his sophomore album, OK Now. It didn't end up making the final tracklist and so Tricky and The Dream ended up giving it to B for I Am... Sasha Fierce. (How she ended up with a writing credit escapes me). Check out Jon's (who is smokin' hot!) Smack Into You:

I really like Jon's version. Maybe it's sexist, but I feel the lyrics have more potency coming from a man. And, you know, because he's not a weave-thrashing android, he's capable of emoting. I'm not going to downplay Beyoncé's version just because Jon did his first, because I still think hers is beautiful. But, a part of me wishes Jon could have kept it; this would have been an excellent addition to his album. What do you guys think?

I like his version as much as Beyonce's. Which goes to show what a great song it is full stop. Although Jon's version should've changed word 'smack' to 'smash' to avoid people getting shit twisted and saying the dude is some red neck promoting domestic violence.

As for Beyonce snagging a writing credit, it's how she does. According to Beyonce, she wrote "Emotion" and "Silent night" too. 2 songs which are older than she is. Beyonce is dumb. I love the bitch, but she's dumb. All that weave thrashing is damaging her brain cells.

I bet she didn't write half the songs on I am.... I'll give her the throwaway garbage on Sasha Fierce. But not I am.... No way in hell could Beyonce write a line like "How can we love in isolation" for "Satellites". I bet she don't even know what the word isolation means! And I KNOW her ass did not write "Ave Maria". Like Beyonce could work 'Ave Maria' into a song by her damn self.

I like this one a lot better. I've found it's easy to like her dance tracks, but the minute she slows down, it sounds contrived to me. I think that part of that is she does have trouble emoting. I mean, everytime I hear her do a cover of a slow song, she seems so uninspired compared to the original, and it always seems so shallow. So, I don't think its necessarily that it's a guy's voice that makes it more potent, but more that its not miss android.
